Does the Basis Smart Panel support EV chargers, and to what capacity?

Got an EV? See how the Basis Smart Panel can handle your charger and the capacity it supports.

You can connect an EV charger to the Basis Smart Panel, but there are a few important considerations to keep in mind.

Currently, the panel recognises your EV charger as it would any large appliance, such as an oven. This means that there is no direct communication between the panel and the charger at this time.

As a result, while the charger can be safely installed and monitored as part of your electrical load, you will not have the ability to control it or access charging-specific information through the Home App.

The size of the EV charger you can install depends on your RCD (Residual Current Device) rating and the MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) specifications in your electrical setup.

If you're unsure about what these terms mean or what your specific limits are, just reach out to your Basis-registered electrician. They’ll be happy to take a look at your installation and help you figure out the best charger size for your system.

We understand that you might be looking forward to smart charging features and integration, but we're not quite there yet.

Rest assured, EV charger integration is on our roadmap, so stay tuned for exciting updates!
