How do I connect a panel to Wi-Fi in the Basis Trade app?

Connecting the panel to the home Wi-Fi is the last step of an install, and you can do it from the Trade app under Smart panel details → Wi-Fi. It takes about a minute.

One thing to know up front: the panel holds one connection at a time. The moment it joins the home network it drops off the Trade app, and you'll see a dialog telling you so. That's the panel doing exactly what it should.

Before you start

  • Connect to the panel in the Basis Trade app.
  • Have the network name and password to hand. Ask the homeowner to confirm the password rather than reading it off the router sticker, In case it has been changed
  • Check the router is in range of the panel. Thick walls and a meter box on the far side of the house are the usual culprits for a weak signal.

Steps

  1. Connect to the panel in the Trade app.
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right of the screen.
  3. Tap Smart panel details.
  4. Tap the Wi-Fi row in the list.
  5. Tap the name of the network you want to join.
  6. Enter the password, then tap the tick.
  7. Wait for the panel to connect.
  8. When the Wi-Fi setup in progress dialog appears, the panel has disconnected from the Trade app so it can join the home network.
  9. Dismiss the dialog. You'll land back on the screen where you connect to panels.

 Tip: passwords are case sensitive and some Wi-Fi routers will quietly drop the connection if the password is wrong, rather than responding with a password error. If it doesn't take first time, re-enter the password before you start troubleshooting anything else.

What you'll see

The Wi-Fi setup in progress dialog is your confirmation that it worked. Once you dismiss it, you're back at the panel list.

Connecting to the panel again

You can connect to the panel again straight away. Doing so takes it off the home Wi-Fi for as long as you're connected, because it can only hold one connection at a time.

The details are stored now, so the panel reconnects to the home network by itself once you disconnect from the Trade app. Nothing to re-enter, and nothing for the homeowner to do.
