Do I need wifi for the Basis Smart Panel?

It's a common misconception that Wi-Fi is essential for the Basis Smart Panel to operate. The reality is that the panel can function without an internet connection, meaning that if you're installing it in a new construction, you (or your electrician) don’t need to have internet set up beforehand.

However, while the panel will still operate as a fully functional electrical switchboard equipped with all necessary safety features, you won’t be able to access energy management data through your Basis Home app without a secure internet connection. This connection is crucial for transmitting data from the panel to your app.

One small limitation is that if you have two wifi access points, our panel may take around 30 seconds to switch between them which will cause a small amount of data loss. 

An ethernet cable is even better than wifi - this will provide the most stable connection possible.
